The Philadelphia Eagles released their third and final official injury report on Friday in advance of their Week 3 home game against the Indianapolis Colts. The following two Eagles players have been ruled out: Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles. Neither running back participated in practice this week. Ajayi is dealing with a back injury he suffered in Week 2 while Sproles is still recovering from a hamstring injury that occurred during practice last week. With Ajayi and Sproles out Youth Customized Philadelphia Eagles Jerseys , the Eagles backfield is down to just Corey Clement, Wendell Smallwood, and Josh Adams. Making matters worse for the Eagles is that Clement was added to the injury report on Friday with a quad issue. The good news is that the Inquirer is reporting Clement should be OK for Sundays game. Otherwise, being down to just Smallwood and Adams is really bad. In either case, I think its fair to expect the Eagles to throw the ball a lot on Sunday.Interestingly enough, Alshon Jeffery has not been ruled out for this weeks game; hes questionable. It still doesnt seem like hes likely to play considering he was limited in practice all week and Doug Pederson said he still hasnt been cleared for contact. But the fact he at least has a chance to play is encouraging and bodes well for his status moving forward. Assuming Jeffery CANT play, the Eagles will be down to just Nelson Agholor, Kamar Aiken, Shelton Gibson www.eaglesfootballauthentics.com , and Jordan Matthews at wide receiver. In other words, the Eagles will be without three of their top four receivers. Not ideal!I found Pedersons comment about JMatt on Friday kind of interesting:Not exactly effusive praise there.Moving on, Jason Peters has also been ruled questionable to play. He was a full participant in Fridays practice after being limited on Wednesday and Thursday. Both Pederson and then Peters himself have said hes going to play this weekend. Hopefully hell be able to stay in the game unlike last week.Kamu Grugier-Hill is questionable to play after being added to the injury report on Friday. The Eagles special teams captain and weakside linebacker is dealing with a groin issue. Hopefully hell be ready. Last, but certainly not least, Carson Wentz was not listed on the report which means hes officially good to go for Sunday. Great to know that No. 11 will be back under center on Sunday.PHILADELPHIA EAGLES INJURY REPORT (FRIDAY)OUT RB Jay Ajayi (back)RB Darren Sproles (groin)QUESTIONABLEWR Alshon Jeffery (shoulder)OT Jason Peters (quad)LB Kamu Grugier-Hill (groin)RB Corey Clement (quad)...RESERVE/PHYSICALLY UNABLE TO PERFORMS Chris MaragosRESERVE/NON-FOOTBALL INJURYDT Timmy JerniganRESERVE/INJUREDCB Elie BoukaWR Mack HollinsCB D.J. Hassan Ridgeway and Quincy Wilson were also ruled out. Wilson is a key role player for the Colts who has played 71.4% of the teams snaps so far.Indys pass protection takes a hit with Castonzo and Doyle, a blocking tight end who played 95% of the Colts offensive snaps through the first two weeks Philadelphia Eagles T-Shirt , both missing this game. The Eagles defensive line should have ample opportunities to win up front and create pressure on Andrew Luck with LeRaven Clark and Joe Haeg starting at the offensive tackle positions. Starting safety Clayton Geathers is listed as questionable. He sat out on Wednesday and practiced in full on Thursday but ended up not practicing again on Friday. Weird week for him. Bad news for the Colts secondary if he cant suit up.Wide receiver T.Y. Hilton returned to practice on Friday after sitting out on both Wednesday and Thursday. But we now know for sure that Earl Thomas wont be their answer. Thomas suffered a lower leg fracture during the Seattle Seahawks game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday evening. Thomas is now expected to be out for the season. Its really a shame for Thomas, who wanted the Seahawks to either give him a new deal or trade him to a team that would. Thomas showed good faith by playing instead of holding out of games like LeVeon Bell. Thomass frustration was evident as he flipped off the Seahawks sideline while he was being carted off the field (as pictured above this article). It was never necessarily likely that the Eagles were going to land Thomas (hence pipe dream), but he certainly made a lot of sense for Philadelphia with McLeod out.The Eagles are currently in a spot where theyre relying on 33-year-old Corey Graham, previously a sub-package contributor Philadelphia Eagles Hats , to play 100% of their defensive snaps. As evidenced in the Eagles Week 4 loss to the Titans, thats just not ideal. Graham played in a role in the big plays allowed by Philadelphias secondary. His biggest mistake was when he lost track of a wide open Taywan Taylor on 4th-and-15. I mean, how does a seasoned vet allow that to happen? Unconscionable. Another result of McLeods absence is that rookie corner Avonte Maddox is now taking snaps at safety despite the fact hes never done in a game before. The Eagles were already putting a lot on Maddoxs plate by asking him to learn nickel corner after he barely played the position at Pitt. Now he has to learn another new position. Acquiring Thomas wouldnt have been cheap, but it couldnt made a big difference. It certainly wouldve been preferable to the current alternatives. But just because Thomas is hurt doesnt mean the Eagles shouldnt stop looking at external solutions. Last week we profiled a number of free agent safeties the Eagles can sign to help them out.If theres a silver lining to the Thomas injury, it could be that the Cowboys can no longer acquire him this season. Thomas may very well sign with Dallas in the offseason, though, given how hes begged that team to come after him.
